The Spanish version of a book also published in French, the book is heavily illustrated with color photographs. As volume 1 of a proposed series, only about a third of the book is devoted specifically to the area of Valladolid, Yucatán. The rest serves as an introduction to caves and caving in the entire Yucatan Peninsula. The Spanish edition was published in conjunction with the Grupo Espeleológico Ajau in Mérida.
